About
I constantly challenge social norms on a day to day basis, and thrive on it.
I love traveling, and do so as much as possible, regardless of how much money I might have. Still often find myself goverened by my own cash on hand, per say.
Since I was a kid I’ve loved everything technical. I was creating calendars in 1992 that would rival VistaPrint, in DOS. Before WYSIWYG. Computer wise, I’ve seen it, done it, and sometimes got in a bit of trouble for it. Regardless I’ve gone white hat. Case study? My open source mod_security rules I created back in 2004 are still used globally on around 30,000 servers. (Google “Apache 3 – HOSTMerit”)
I know Windows like none other, and currently am using an actual licensed beta copy of Windows 7. I acquired it to know what my clientele would have to deal with being in the IT field, and realized it’s just a properly polished version of Vista. (Buy Windows 7) If need be, you can call me at 3AM asking if a shady .dll launched via dllhost from system32 is a rootkit that hasn’t yet been found, or just a sloppy part of Windows.
Side Note: Do not call me at 3AM Drunk in msconfig asking what should or shouldn’t be there. Nothing can *or has* come of such.
I’ve worked on Linux servers since I was 14 and started with HostDime. I brought HostDime from a one-man show with 4 servers, to a recognized brand name in the hosting industry, and love seeing how far they’ve come from me re-wording the website back in 2002 (Check archive.org) While working on Linux Servers (RHEL->CentOS) in the hosting industry, I fell in love with an emerging technology mod_security. Mod_security wasn’t quite easy to integrate with Apache at the time, but its power was like none other. From watching access_logs, failure logs, and audit_logs on 150+ of HostDime’s servers I developed my own custom Apache Mod_Security CPanel Ruleset which I’m rather known for. PHP and Apache are amazing, but without something filtering the requests (and URL fopen) it can be pure mayhem. I averted such many times a day at HostDime, then got mod_security to do it for me. Linux + Apache (LAMP) is great, CPanel is greater, Mod_Security is Mecca.
Past web hosting I got back into the SEO and Web Design field which I met up Phil of Oznium, an LED Lighting company. At the time they did very small sales of under $50 per ticket, and sold mostly to auto enthusiasts and people from Wisconsin. Most products were cold cathodes and Flexible LED Strips. Through a thorough SWOT Analysis, restructing of the company, and the creation of an off-site yet ‘not out-sourced’ support center, I took their sales and profits 4x from 2005.
In July 2009 I realized from all of my 16-20 hours per day put into the company, I still wasn’t making enough to even pay rent, while I watched my boss travel constantly, while I did all of the work.
I decided to break free of making said company a brand name, and started my own LED Lighting company, lightDifferent. Since I invented close to half the the most popular selling products on my ex-employes website, I’ve decided to stay with the same factories, but not only to improve the products, and charge less, but offer a service he wouldn’t: Quality Control. Every single product that comes into my warehouse or goes out will be rigourously tested and rejected if it doesn’t meet my standards. I saw too many people getting products that would fail multiple times, that we’d so callously replace. Not at lightDifferent. We’ll spend the extra 1.00 with our factory and get the product made right.
There’s my life in a nutshell (or Google Profile) I’ve successfully launched two companies from seemingly nothing to amazing, with millions of dollars of influx. Along with such I’ve life coached two normal guys to millionare rockstars (at least wannabe’s) who enjoy crazy lives and past-times because of my computer skills.
Time to stop pissing around and make my skills work for… me ?
