BREAKING: House Votes 220-215 for Health Reform legislation

The House of Representatives passed legislation for the first time Saturday night that would provide health coverage to almost every American after nearly a century of false starts and un-kept campaign promises.

The final vote was 220-215. In all, 219 Democrats voted to approve the measure in a largely party-line vote, with 39 Democrats voting no. One Republican supported the bill, Rep. Joseph Cao (R-La.).

The bill has a steep cost – both in dollars, $1.2 trillion, and political capital – but Democrats hailed its passage as the next chapter in a governing legacy that produced Medicare and Social Security.

“Today, as we all know, is an historic moment for our nation and for American families,” Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on the House floor hours before the vote.

President Barack Obama has made health care reform his signature legislative priority — and he put his personal prestige on the line Saturday by traveling to the Capitol to rally Democrats, telling them to answer the call of history by passing the bill.

Braylon Edwards traded to the New York Jets (NY)

edwards traded jets

Past Cleveland Browns player, Braylon Edwards, better known for his allegations of assaulting a friend of LeBron James outside a nightclub, has just been traded to the Jets.

In exchange for the great player, with a bit of a troubled past, the Jets gave up wideout Chansi Stucky, linebacker Jason Trunsik and undisclosed draft picks.

The NFL is currently in the midst of an investigation, with allegations that Edwards punched a friend of NBA star LeBron James outside a nightclub, which seems to have been the final cut for Mangini and the Browns.

Edwards will start for the New York Jets with with 10 receptions and 139 yards in four games so far this season.

Songs of Summer 2009

All of these are my favorite songs by far, that epitomize the summer of 2009. Most were heard / listened to when I lived in Hawaii over the summer. A few aren’t Hawaiian themed, but I assure you all are amazing. Sorry for the lack of music videos for some songs, but groups like SDIB don’t have music videos, and it’s rare to find a full version on youtube (past some douche with his new acoustic..)

5. Razorlight – Golden Touch : Great song, quite catchy. Not hawaiian, but played throughout the summer never the less.

4. Kid Cudi vs. Crookers – Day N’ Night : Love it, would tweak out the local Hawaiians playing it / blasting it in my bio-diesel powered Jetta. Respeck. Story of my life per say, haha.

3. The Dandy Warhols – Get Off : Great song I’ve heard from Dom Joly from the Trigger Happy TV / World Shut your Mouth Soundtracks:

2. Heavy D – My Love Is All I Have : Probably should be tied with #1 as I still listen to this song. In fact I found no real way to stream it on the page except linking to Yahoo music so I dug up code from Google just to embed it, took a little while to do, but totally worth it. Great music, alot of my favorites this summer were from Heavy D – Vibes album, if you were on any island, especially Maui, you heard at least 3 songs from that album per day.

1. SDIB – Midnight Hour : By far my favorite, hawaiian themed song. First few times I heard it walking around Maui / at restaurants thought it was about a guy and his girlfriend (hence the singing to eachother) – Listened to the first part when I downloaded, it’s infact about a ukelele. Makes me love it all the more:

Dragonfly Music & Arts Festival – 2009

Another music festival kicked off on Saturday in Reading, Pennsylvania by Dragonfly & Todd Jones, local organizer. The Dragonfly Music & Arts Festival was produced by Todd Jones, a local festival manager. With his previous experience with amazing festivals, this event assuredly went as planned, even with the rubbish weather!

Did not even bring an ezUP. Decided to use only my car and a fold out tabe, and an incredibly sopping wet hoody to sell the products I bought. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to even explain a 1W LED Flashlight, I decided to only sell / present the LED Glow Sticks & LED Glow Batons I had made. By the end of the night / 11PM the music was just ending, the rain was strong, but I came out with quite alot of sopping dollars and fives.

The event is a quite modestly priced gathering with much music and also art & crafts for the children and adults. It’s only $25 per person for the day and the kids under $10 are free. No gouging going on here, camping is also available, but the weather fended off many campers to be.

The festival was named after their host, Dragonfly Studio and Galleries. They handled “Art” part with lots of Dragonfly merchandise and creativity.

Housed on a camping ground / older Blue Falls Grove Waterpark, the Festival was in a waterfront area with tree lined groves surrounding the event. An incredible venue for this type of event.

Next year, Dragonfly is planning on expanding to a two day event with even more Dragonfly merchandise and activities! From the numerous products / pendants I personally bought from David Dragonfly himself, I literally cannot wait!

Big thanks to David Dragonfly & Todd Jones for an amazing event.

Lemon Bay Resort aka LRI Associates / Leon Watts : Fax Auto-Dialing Spammers

Today I woke up to a call from a semi-local (NJ based) phone call at 9:35 AM. Working with factories and suppliers in China on a routine basis, I am a day sleeper, and enjoy such. So the fact I forgot to put my phone on vibrate and got woken up by a call didn’t make me very happy.

Thinking it was semi-important due to the locality, I answered…. Fax Machine. This is a new cell phone number, nor has ever been a fax number, spam auto-dialer. Damnit. Back to sleep.

9:44 am, Same number calling again. Threw phone and back to sleep. One more time 10:43 am, same fax machine again. At this point I’m up, livid, cleaning around my linux server, and pissing around Reddit.

They really shouldn’t have called the 3rd time when I was piss angry I up before 10AM, just after getting to sleep at the peak of dawn before 6AM.

The number that was / is calling is: 732-826-4839.

Seems I was being called by Lemon Bay Resort, LLC which ‘claims’ and I use the term loosely to operate out of Englewood, FL, where I found them in the local chamber of commerce’s newsletter of businesses. They were a new business as of May 2009 from the Englewood May ‘Pulse’ Newsletter

After poking around, it seems that before Mr. Leon Watts started phone spamming from a block of NJ based landlines cloaking as a Florida Resort (he owns a good chunk of 732-826-2xxx-4xxx) he was, and continues to be a roofer out of NJ. There’s a cached Google Document of his References and background of his NJ based roofing company ‘L.R. WATTS & SONS ROOFING, INC.’ started in 1978.

It seems since roofing, Mr. Watts has started an industrial cleaner company, and sells green household products and still seeks partners. Apparently though he’s had 20+ years in the consumer retail product industry, which just about overlaps his Roofing company. Roofing and Industrial Green Cleaners, and now Auto-Dialing Phone Spamming for a Florida resort. Damn, this guy is busy.

I called Lemon Bay Resort, which oddly is just 1 number away on the pad from LRI Associates based in NJ and put on the old ‘executive’ voice asking if it was a Mr. Leon Watts and if he in-fact owned the fax number 732-826-4839. He responded yes, at which point I dropped the executive voice, and asked why their fax auto-dialer had been calling me all morning. It took around 2 seconds to register for him, then He started laughing. Mistakeeeeeee. After around 5 seconds I realized this piece of shit knew quite well what was going on, and was in NJ (as I called him on an NJ landline) which I explained. I then gave him the ultimatum of:

a) removing my cell phone number from their list as it was a NJ based cell phone placed on the federal do not call list.
b) losing his block of numbers, which I assume spans from 732-826-2000 to at least 732-826-5000, as one of his auto-dialers was in the 4839 range, and his shell FL company has a phone number of 732-826-2001, and his NJ cleaner company has a number one off of 723-826-2002.

He was speechless for 5 seconds, after I told him I knew quite alot about him, and one again asked him to stop spamming me with a fax machine, especially on a cell phone. He hung up.

I called back and explained his company called me 4 times, he wasn’t getting off that easily. At this point his demeanor changed from laughing to ‘I don’t know who you are’ – I explained he didn’t, but his autodialers had quite a good idea. He hung up.

Called back a 3rd time, I got the company switchboard.

The question still remains… This is a brand new cell phone number, that has never been a fax number, so it could not be a previous owner or a mistake. Purely an auto-dailer for what seems to be a sub-par golf resort based in Florida who spams in NJ (pun quite intended)

If anyone from the company would like to fill me in with more than bullshit on to why a 908-72x-xxxx new cell phone number was autodialed 3 times on a tuesday morning from a fax machine, please feel free to contact me.

Moral of the story: Do not piss off someone who gets off on this type of investigative work, and especially someone who’s been there, and knows every trick in the book, if not 10x more.

Next time, spam your fax advertising for your shitty golf resort in Florida, from an Internet Fax service. Don’t use your land-line NJ based phone number which has evidence pointing to the fact you own a block of 3,000.
Oh, and whatever company you used to get the NJ call / fax list sucks. Although, I’m honestly guessing you just have been auto-dialing for months and have just hit the 908-723 block. 23% in. 908-723 is an ATT cell phone block. Good season.

PETA Public Relations Fail

Not new to PETA is sloppy, half assed PR tactics. What immediately comes to mind is the crazy founder requesting parts of her body be mailed and delivered to lawmakers, and of course numerous protests with nude idiots inside plastic packaging on numerous streets, for all to see… including children. You stay classy, PETA.

In their latest faux pas of Public Relations and Marketing, the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (better known as NAMBLA) has come up with a quite catchy name for their blog.

One of two things has happened. Either PETA half-assed the naming of their ‘epic’ blog, and didn’t realize (nor say the name out loud once) , I’m guessing this is the case.

The other possibility is that PETA’s hired a PR firm so brilliant and trained in the skill of viral marketing, they not only realized this, but have decided to keep the name to draw an uproar, and some attention to their blog. While PETA has quite a lot of money, and the facts show they put none of it into actually saving animals, they could hire a PR firm so genius to pull this intentional screw up off, but I honestly doubt it.

Here are some other epic PR & Marketing mistakes that come to mind throughout the years after seeing this:

This ad was from early 2005 from McDonalds who contained a cheeky bastard touting: “Double Cheeseburger? I’d hit it. I’m a dollar menu guy” I’d make an ironic PETA-file joke, but it doesn’t seem to work… fully.

Plug and Play? We’ve got that cover- F-F-F-F: An Oldie, but a classic none the less. One can only imagine how many teams of developers disappeared after this incident.

I was going to add the final part about a campaign launced by Edison to try and spread the safer Direct Current (DC) technology in the 1880s, which included eletrocuting an elephant via Alternating Current (AC) then I realized I’ve digressed off from a PETA article, and shan’t be going down the road of adding such a video. Source is at the preceeding link, where many of these fails (except the PETA) came from, Consumerist. One of my favorite sites by far.

Panic! At The Disco – New Perspective : Official Music Video

First off, I’d like to say goodbye to Ryan Ross from Panic! at the Disco. I’ve been following Panic! since they had around 20 hits a day on PureVolume. My ex who was totally emo (loved it) got into them, and of course I followed. Actually ended up loving their music, and got to know Ryan Ross just from emailing / advising him to clear his WHOIS info on the official website’s domain, as it was still his home address, and I had a good feeling they’d be quite popular soon. We talked routinely over AIM while he was on tours, and saw him at some smaller shows. Months later they were touring with Fall Out Boy as the headliner on the Nintendo Fusion tour. That summer they were the headliners with Senses Fail, The Academy Is, etc. Always liked Panic best, and of course their stage style / theme.

Sadly I’ve read Ryan Ross has left Panic! At the Disco (they got smart and re-inserted the ! into their name July 2009) with Jon Walker, a former band member due to musical differences, and started their own band, The Young Veins, a 60’s style pop band out of California. Shame Ross left P!ATD, but I’m sure The Young Veins will have more than a lot to offer, with two of the best from Panic.

Secondly, a new song from Panic! At The Disco : New Perspective – Took a while to find proper lyrics, and then an real music video : Enjoy!

Lyrics to the new Single : Panic! At the Disco – New Perspective

I feel the salty waves come in
I feel them crash against my skin
And I smile as I respire because I know they’ll never win
There’s a haze above my TV
That changes everything I see
And maybe if I continue watching
I’ll lose the traits that worry me

Can we fast-forward to go down on me?
Stop there and let me correct it
I wanna live a life from a new perspective
You come along because I love your face
And I’ll admire your expensive taste
And who cares divine intervention
I wanna be praised from a new perspective
But leaving now would be a good idea
So catch me up on getting out of here

Taking everything for granted but we still respect the time
We move along with some new passion knowing everything is fine
And I would wait and watch the hours fall in a hundred separate lines
But I regain repose and wonder how I ended up inside

Can we fast-forward to go down on me?
Stop there and let me correct it
I wanna live a life from a new perspective
You come along because I love your face
and I’ll admire your expensive taste
And who cares divine intervention
I wanna be praised from a new perspective
But leaving now would be a good idea
So catch me up on getting out of here

More to the point, I need to show
How much I can come and go
Other plans fell through
And put a heavy load on you
I know there’s no more that need be said
When I’m inching through your bed
Take a look around instead and watch me go

Stop there and let me correct it
I wanna live a life from a new perspective
You come along because I love your face
and I’ll admire your expensive taste
And who cares divine intervention
I wanna be praised from a new perspective
But leaving now would be a good idea
So catch me up on getting out of here

It’s not fair, just let me perfect it
Don’t wanna live a life that was comprehensive
‘Cause seeing clear would be a bad idea,
Now catch me up on getting out of here
So catch me up I’m getting out of here

Cheers!
-K

Goodbye Best Buy: Why I will not be Returning

I used to enjoy Best Buy over Circuit City because the workers weren’t paid commission to up-sell utter rubbish, but after seeing this widespread picture on the internet of an inflated Best Buy Geek Squad Install package offered.

I honestly have no question who’s stupid enough to purchase this setup, as the entire setup consists of a power plugin, HDMI plug, and in a rare case, an RJ45 plugged in. For the bastard at PR / Marketing / at the Best Buy who offers this package (not sure if it’s local or nationwide) there’s a special place in hell for you. Taking advantage of naive buyers, mostly parents and grandparents purchasing PS3 as gifts, and up-selling this package is just sickening.

When a Facebook Obsession Interferes with Work

While this is incredibly stupid news, at the same time, I can’t help but think the spacker who got caught would’ve been just fine if he had an iPhone or NetBook

MARTINSBURG – The popular online social networking site Facebook helped lead to an alleged burglar’s arrest after he stopped check his account on the victim’s computer, but forgot to log out before leaving the home with two diamond rings.

Jonathan G. Parker, 19, of Fort Loudoun, Pa., was arraigned Tuesday one count of felony daytime burglary.

According to court records, Deputy P.D. Ware of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department responded on Aug. 28 to the victim’s home after she reported the burglary.

She told police that someone had broken into her home through a bedroom window.

There were open cabinets in her garage, and other signs of a burglar.

The victim later noticed that the intruder also used her computer to check his Facebook status, and his account was still open when she checked the computer.

The victim later noticed that she was missing two diamond rings from her dresser in the same room as her computer.

The two rings were worth more than $3,500, reports indicate.

During the investigation, a friend of the victim told her that he knew where Parker was staying, in the same area as the victim’s house.

Police then went to the home and spoke with a friend of Parker’s.

The man said Parker had stopped by his home occasionally, but he said the man didn’t live there.

He also said that the night before the burglary, Parker asked him if he wanted to help break into the victim’s home but he refused.

As of Tuesday evening, Parker remained in custody at the Eastern Regional Jail on $10,000 bail.

If convicted he faces one to 10 years in prison.
